Independent Women’s Organization Endorses Landry for House District 91

NEW ORLEANS--Louisiana House of Representatives Candidate Mandie Landry has received the highly-regarded Independent Women’s Organization’s single endorsement for District 91. First established in 1939, IWO is one of the state’s most respected political groups with more than 300 women from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and occupations, and many of its members have been elected to office, including New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson. 

IWO supports Democratic candidates who are allies in the struggle for women’s equality.

Landry, who has actively campaigned for fellow Democrats since she was a student, says the endorsement means a lot, and considering those who have come before her, encourages her in her first campaign for office.

“The strong, motivated women of IWO won’t accept the status quo; they work to remind people that women’s rights are human rights, and that we must work together in order to make real change in our state,” says Landry.  “That’s pretty good company to keep.”

As a lifelong Democrat, Landry says she’s ready to become a next generation leader in the state legislature, and to work hard for legislation that improves the health and wealth of women and children in our state, and to address the further inequities experienced by women of color in pay and healthcare

“It is incredibly important that we have leaders who not only support issues particularly important to women, but who are willing and ready to be vocal in their support of these issues,” says Landry. “This includes the right to decide what is best for you and your body; the right to health care for you and your children; the right to a living wage; and the right to safe and fair working conditions.”
